Whilst we understand that working parents need to be able to attend work, however, it is important to note that if your child is unwell, they will be better cared for in their own home by a parent particularly if the illness is likely to be contagious.
- It is our policy to obtain a record of all children’s immunisation history, and we appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
- Please advise the centre in advance if your child will not be attending because of illness – with the details of the illness.
- If a child becomes unwell or gets a temperature whilst he/she is at crèche the parent will be informed by phone immediately to collect their child.
- We have included a list of illnesses and conditions that may arise and a note to confirm when the child can return to the service.
- The manager reserves the right to send a child home if she feels it’s in the best interest of the child in any given situation.
- Procedures
In compliance with our sick child Policy the following procedures will support its implementation:
- If your child has a temperature of 38 degrees or over, please do not bring them to the service.
- If your child has suffered from vomiting or diarrhoea in the last 48 hours, please do not bring them into the service - we would appreciate a call to let us know (children should remain at home for a minimum of 48 hours after either incident occurs).
- If your child becomes ill whilst in our care, we will make them as comfortable as possible, we will isolate them from other children if necessary - and reassure them. We will contact you and continue to care for them until you arrive to collect them as soon as possible. If a child has a high temperature of 38 degrees or over, you will be called to collect your child. If your child's temperature has not returned to normal the following day without medication e.g. Calpol, we would ask that you do not bring them into the service.
- Head lice are contagious and will be brought to the attention of the parent immediately, children can return to the service once they have been treated.
- Children will not be excluded if taking antibiotic medicine. As long as it's an antibiotic they have taken before we are happy to administer it but will need to obtain a medical consent form in advance and will keep it in the child's file. If it’s a new medication the child has never taken before they should take it for 48 hours before returning to the service.
- All medications will be stored safely and appropriately at all times.
- In the case of a serious illness, we will contact the child's doctor and parents immediately and will take the necessary steps to ensure the well-being of the child. The child's records will accompany the child to the doctor/hospital in the event of the parent not being available
